Gender Stereotypes
Gender Stereotypes in Advertisements has been around for a long time, just like the examples we saw in the lecture. This picture here is an example of an ad where the company wanted to sell their products towards women. The stereotype here is that most of the time men are the ones opening the bottles because they are the strong and dominant ones but here they make the product so women can now open it.
It has been around for so long that we have come to accept it and sometimes not even notice it. Many companies today use this tactic to sell their product better because their product might sell better. Here is an example by Dr. Pepper and their ad for Dr. Pepper 10.
The commercial's target audience is men and they make it cool and manly by setting the scene in the jungle. There is a lot of action going on which men like and at the end Dr. Pepper even puts a picture up which says that "This product is not for women." This is one of the times where I actually saw that they literally tell who the product is for. Many other companies today try to do the same with their commercials aimed towards men like Miller Lite and Old Spice. I think that it is some what okay to do this since they want to really sell their product and this is probably one of the best ways.
